Post-natal Reflexology

After the birth of your child your body will be tired and possibly overwhelmed by not only the task of looking after a newborn, but also attempting to regulate hormonal imbalances within the body. Physically, your body has been supporting another life for the last nine months and it is well known that nutrients pass to the unborn baby first, possibly leaving mums-to-be with various deficiencies.

New mums are very vulnerable to hormonal imbalances, and postnatal depression can occur in approximately 10-12% of women within one month of childbirth (O’Hara and Swain, 1996). Postnatal reflexology aims to bring the body back into equilibrium, both physically and mentally.

For more information and support about postnatal depression visit NHS Choices or the association for postnatal illness.
